"The Masque of the Red Death" is one of his famous books that I just read in my Eng. class about 2 weeks ago. He is a dark author, many of his stories are dark and have endings dealing with death. He was born Jan. 19, 1809 in Boston Mass. and died on Oct. 7, 1849 in Baltimore. He was born Edgar Poe but his parents died and John and Frances Allan took him in but never adopted him. Frances and Allan took a liking to eachother but John and Poe never got along. After a short time at the Unv. of Virginia going into the military career, being payed by the Allans, Poe quit to become a writer, what he always wanted to be. The allans and Edgar Allan Poe seperated and Poe was on his own, writing short stories and he was very unstable financially. The things that made his writing the way they were are all of the horrible things that happend in his childhood, like his parents dieing and all of the trouble with money and becoming a succesful writer. He also married his cousin Virginia Clemm when she was 13 and he was 15, she died of TB and that also caused his writings to be so dark. you can find more of his books on google or wiki

that's a quick tale noted as The tell tale heart. I presume it is for college, and pondering you are able to not get the identify or the class suitable, you certainly could desire to learn. in spite of the incontrovertible fact that, it particularly is memorable because of the fact it exposes human madness, the fallibility of the human state and how it turns over on itself involuntarily. merely study it, it particularly is well worth it. Poe is surprising.

Annabel Lee is the truly my favorite poem of all time.. and I memorized it when I was a kid....beautiful poem Now there is the Raven that shows true insanity, and a taste for the macabre...also excellent though. Try reading his poems and just changing some of the words: example: His poem~ Annabel Lee It was many and many a year ago in the kingdom by the sea there lived a maiden whom you may know by the name of Annabel Lee and she lived with no other thought they to love and be loved by me.....etc. Change the wording to: Moon Beams -------------------------- It was many and many a dream ago though I do remember it so well when I came across a little schoolhouse that every day rang its ghastly bell. and the people gathered from across the land and for some reason, started to yell I hid and watched to try to find out why they would do this every night but I never did really figure it out though it seemingly did excite I came to a vague conclusion from the way they would scream so loud that this was their way to express their dismay though they stood there so very proud. and this is the reason, as most of you know, that made me inquisitive and still want to go to the land of dreams that held all the screams of many strange people in the land of moon beams. --------------------------------------... hope this helps some and good luck~

Poe was asked how he wrote his poems and why they were so melancholy, and he said that poems should be beautiful and beauty is sad. Then he said that he wrote his poems backwards. He'd have a thought on how he wanted it to feel at the end and exactly how he wanted it read and then went backwards to the next line before the end line. Maybe he wrote whole stanzas backwards. So let''s say you're ending is "The scar on her cheek went deeper and wider." So the stanza that fits into might be about the strange mark that in the beginning of the poem came from nowhere, a metaphor of suppressed guilt for having thoughts of evil things. Then the stanza before that could be about how she hated someone for killing her pet. Then before that how she had to live with her step dad and describing how sinister and evil he was.
