Number of times I have answered such questions regarding inter-religious marriages apart from getting them solemnized before the marriage officer. You both belonging to different religion can marry in the court without changing your individual religion. Registered/Court marriage as you call it is solemnized under the Special Marriage Act, 1954 all such marriages can take place between any two Indian citizens as well one Indian citizen with a foreigner irrespective of their religion, caste or creed, and you can say this is the secular form of marriage available in our country. Such a marriage is solemnized before the marriage officer/registrar usually D.C. deputy commissioner of the area /SDM where both or any of the parties to such a marriage reside permanently or for at least one month. Cost of such a marriage as the rate prevalent in your area. Now how you proceed? Both the parties to the marriage file a joint application/notice before the marriage officer along with individual affidavit attested by notary public specifying the age(boy 21yrs &girl 18yrs), place of residence, marital status(unmarried or divorcee as the case maybe), mental status(not idiot or not with unfit mind), not related to each other. Along with this you have to give proof of age (School certificate, Passport, Pan card), proof of residence (Passport, ration card, voters ID card, rent agreement), & the application/notice of such a marriage maybe asked to be witnessed by 3 independent adult persons, affix one photograph of each of the parties & all the 3 witnesses. You have made such an application/notice to the marriage officer in person along with all the 3 witnesses. On receiving such an application/notice the marriage officer issues a month notice regarding the intended marriage & get such a notice affixed on the notice board out side his office, a copy of such notice is sent to the marriage officer under whose jurisdiction the other party lives, also a copy is to the individual parties address. After expiry of the period of notice a date is fixed on which all the persons parties to the marriage & 3 witnesses appear again before the marriage officer who declare them married & issue a certificate to this regard. Incase of any objections raised the marriage officer will settle these objections. Now what can be objections that can be raised? These can ONLY BE REGARDING THE CONDITIONS NECESSARY FOR SUCH MARIAGE & NOTHING ELSE. What are the conditions? As I stated above i.e. Age, martial status, mental status, prohibited relationship (related to each other by blood). This is the brief & general procedures I have told you here. It’s always better to engage a lawyer to get such marriage solemnized to avoid any legal impediments which he will be able to handle. In the mean time apply for tatkal passport which get issued within 15days.

I know some Muslim people. If you leave Islam, then according o Muslim beliefs you are considered an apostate and will have to be divorced. So this is just something you need to know, before you convert to marry him. You can contact your appropriate government department and ask how you can go through this as quickly as possible. Best wishes!

First of all you have to set a budget. You obviously have responsibilities between the two of you. Rings: diamonds are not all crated equally. Learn about them first. Things to consider- clarity (how many impurities), cut (shape and facets), carats (size). The better, the more expensive. You can buy cheap, small diamonds in the $100s. But a decent size (3/4-1 ct.) and decent purity can cost a few thousand. Also, you must consider the setting and metal type. Do you want a solitaire (one diamond) or maybe 3 in the setting? Do you want yellow or white gold or even platinum? Platinum is the most expensive but also the best metal quality. Try to do some undercover recon so you can figure out what she would like within her own tastes. This can seem like an overwhelming decision in itself, but believe me the thought you put into it will show. Do some online homework about the 3 Cs. You'll learn a lot. Even before my husband proposed I did my own homework so I knew what everyone was talking about. I agree that you shouldn't worry about the wedding band right now. Concentrate on the engagement ring first. You can shop for your wedding bands together. The setting for proposing is a nice idea. I agree though that as a matter of respect you should speak to her parents first. You may already live with her and have a child but since you are totally committing your life to her now her parents will want the assurance that you plan to take care of her and your child properly, lovingly and faithfully. You can never go wrong there. Also, if possible have her family present on Christmas. They'd love to be present at this momentous time in your life. Your fiancee to be may want a small wedding or a big wedding. Whatever the case, she will more than likely want time. A year is ideal to plan a wedding- especially a moderate one. Large or more detailed than you may need more time. Small than less time. Don't make a decision without her. And let me tell you from my own experience, cost can get out of hand quickly. Be clear fro the beginning who is paying for what. Her parents or yours may want to pay for things or may not. You can ask them (after you're engaged so you can do this together) if they'd like to pay for anything. You can make it clear that though you're open to suggestions that the day belongs to you, your fiancee and your child. Also be clear on how much you ideally want to spend, stay as close to that as possible. It is incredibly easy to go overboard. It is important to remember that no matter how simple or elaborate, this day is about the everlasting covenant you'll be making with each other. Oh and one last piece of advice- no matter what anyone says this wedding is not about your wife to be alone and not only about what she wants. This day is about both of you making a commitment to each other and it should be a reflection of both of you not just one of you. Also, be a participant not a bystander. Jump in and help; don't wait for her to ask you, And have fun! Enjoy the journey. This is the happiest time in your life. Keep it that. Congratulations and God Bless!
