Question: Okay so I am a pretty big meat eater and I want to stop because i am a big animal lover as well so it is pretty contradictory. I was considering becoming a vegetarian because I have been researching how our meat is packaged and processed and I almost throw up i was so disgusted at the horrible way the animals were treated (I literally felt like i was looking at pictures from hell they were so terrible but that's just cause i really love animals) it made me so angry that now i can't even look at a piece of meat right now let alone eat it. If any vegetarians out there could give me some advice on how your experience with becoming vegetarian was, it would seriously be appreciated cause i am really conflicted right now. Here are some reasons why if you want to give me some advice. 1) I don't understand why I am alright with eating a pig or a cow and not my own dog even though i love ALL animals. 2) I don't know if i want to eat anymore meat, I mean i like it but when i think about what i am eating, it makes me kinda sad. 3) I don't know if this is true but don't meat eaters have a more likely chance of a heart attack than non-meat eaters? I really don't know. Plus, can vegetarians eat dairy products? Cause my favorite food is a grilled cheese sandwich so i don't know if can have that anymore if i become one.

Congratulations! I think it's great that you are thinking of doing this - I am a vegetarian for the same reasons as you. I completely agree with you that it's weird how people respect animals such as dogs and cats, and then treat other intelligent animals however the hell they want. It depresses me! Changing your diet is really not that hard - I thought if I stopped eating meat I would have to spend ages ensuring I get all of the vitamins and minerals I needed but it's actually really easy. You feel healthy straight away once you take meat out of your diet and it is really easy to get all of the nutrients you need. I just make sure that I eat some dark green, leafy veggies at least every three days and a handful of nuts here and there and anything else I feel like eating - I have lost a bit of weight since becoming a veggie and I feel really fit and healthy now. I find I sleep better and have much more energy. The other thing you said is SO true - vegetarians live longer and get sick less often. Most omnivores eat WAY too much protein and this leads to heart disease and cancer. There's no reason at all to eat meat. Daisy, give it up. Why come on here and attack people's diets every single day? We get it, you're not vegetarian. You eat at McDonalds, congrats. Now mind your own business and let us eat a diet that is far less cruel than yours. EDIT - Yeah, you can eat cheese if you aren't vegan. Just make sure you look for non-animal rennet when you buy it so that it isn't a by-product of slaughtering... it will either say animal rennet or non-animal rennet on the back which makes it easy. It tells you here in Australia, anyway.

If you want to be a vegetarian or vegan, you really have to know exactly why, so whenever you think, "hmm, one hamburger won't hurt", you'll have your reason to back you up and keep you strong. It sounds like you have that motivation. Slaughterhouse cruelty is a big part of what motivates me, too. It's honestly pretty hard to give up meat at first. Personally, I craved it all the time at first. It was especially difficult if someone around me was eating meat and it would smell soo good, but I knew I'd feel guilty if I ate any. You need to balance your diet with lots of protein and iron to make up for what you're missing from meat. This minimizes your cravings.Tofu is a complete protein, making it an ideal source of the nutrient. After a while, all my cravings vanished. I have absolutely no desire to eat meat. Also, I'm still perfectly healthy and not malnourished thus far (about a year of vegetarianism) due to a balanced diet.

1) it's not alright, that's the hypocrisy. Go to China, they eat frogs, rare birds, snake, all normal, cats too. I have been there, this is not propaganda, I lived there. 2) Well it should make you sad, seen what a cow does near an abbatoir? It runs like crazy and people use sticks to poke them in the eyes. 3) Yes, they do. Also colon cancer, blood pressure, heart disease, strokes. It's pretty normal to fall apart from a meat diet, and dairy is nasty too. We are all made the same- the ones of us that don't eat meat and dairy live a lot longer, healthier and do not get cancer nearly as much- that is with a good diet, not just fries and oreos. The ones of us that eat a good diet and still eat meat, still get a higher chance of all those diseases, and this is proved over and over again. Why would that be, if nature makes perfect creations, and it does, it would not make a being to eat from its environment and get sick off that food. Animals in the wild, eating their anatomically perfect food don't. Humans are the only species that do this.

Becoming a vegetarian isn't all that difficult when you do it for the right reasons and feel good about it, but it sounds like you have that part down. The number one thing a lot of people don't realize is that for a great number of vegetarians, the number one rule is that you make your own rules. I don't eat meat, and I don't eat eggs(because of the way they treat those poor birds) but I continue to eat dairy products. That is called a lacto-vegetarian. Some people eat dairy and eggs( lacto-ovo vegetarian) some eat eggs but no dairy( ovo-vegetarian) some eat both eggs and dairy (lacto-ovo) and some eat absolutely nothing that comes from an animal whatsoever (vegan). When you asked what being a vegetarian is like, it just feels good. For a number of mental and physical reasons. I think if you feel like you want to stop eating meat, just go for it. I almost forgot the best part, you can eat all of the grilled cheese you want.
