Question: Can I ask a letter of recommendation to a teacher even though I'm not sure what kind of job I'm going to apply for? In other words, can I ask a letter of recommendation now, so I could use it in the future? Also, can I use a single letter of recommendation to apply for different jobs? Or I can only use it once? Thank you very much.

When you are still in school your teacher(s) are your best source of recommendation for a future job. They are smart enough to know how to word it if you tell them what it is you want and will be using it for, such as, what you state above. I see nothing wrong with using a single letter of recommendation for different jobs as long as you have a good, clean, clear and crisp copy on good quality paper that you print at home if you have a printer or have a printer print off for you. Recommendations/references are reusable, but you may want to leave the date off if not using them right of way. If I were you I would ask the particular teacher(s) and your Guidance Counselor how to go about it if you are not quite satisfied with what you end up with. Guidance Counselors, Principles, Vice Principles, Coaches and any one who knows you can be good for this sort of thing and even neighbors. Especially one's that you mow lawns for, babysit and so on. If you know your local Librarian they are good at this also. If you go to Church, your Minister, Pastor Priest or whomever leads your church can also give you these same or in addition to and then maybe you would not need to use all the same or can tailor it to your needs based on who is doing the writing and what they say. I would ask for the info from all that I could and use what is fitting at the time it is needed. I hope this has given you some idea's on who else could be good to ask and broaden your base of suppliers of info that you need or will need. One last source, even if it may be a bit biased, is, your parents/grandparents/aunts/uncles. No one knows you better than them. Good luck and best wishes in finding what you need. You should be proud of yourself for asking this question. It is an important future life decision making one and a good one at that!

I see no reason to not check. They may have misplaced it or too many ahead of you for rapid processing

Not at all. Just be polite and honest. "Thank you again for agreeing to write a recommendation for me. The due date is October 31, so I just wanted to confirm that it was submitted."

I agree with NahaPaul. Just be polite. The teacher won't be offended. I'd think it was responsible of you if I were a teacher.

If you're going to be looking for a job in the immediate future, the yes, you can. But if it's going to be a while, I'd wait. You don't want to be using a letter of recommendation that's two or three years out of date when you start job hunting. Yes, you can use the same letter of recommendation with more than one prospective employer. Just photocopy it and make it part of your Job Search Packet. Good luck!

Ask them in a well mannered way while they do no longer seem to be busy, the two in individual or by skill of email. provide them as lots information as you may, the two approximately you and appropriate to the standards for the letter(s). furnish a resume. If there are issues you wish they'll contain or tension, point out them. "i'm relatively excited approximately this software/interest; i think of this is a solid extra healthful by way of fact of [this undertaking I did/ my adventure with my volunteer paintings / my Latin prize". provide them the written-down instructions approximately what ought to be interior the letter and how it is going to be further. in the event that they agree, ask them if there is to any extent further information they want. offering a stamped addressed envelope is a superb touch. Reminding them very in a well mannered way appropriate to the time shrink is fantastic too. in the event that they war placed you off, thank them and ask them in the event that they could advise somebody else to ask. do no longer push in any respect. they could mean "i'm too busy", or "i do no longer understand you o.k. and could't do a solid interest" or "i don't have an fairly helpful effect of you, and that i'll tell the actuality." Or they could have a coverage of no longer writing the form of letter that the candidate gets to work out. Getting little provides after writing the letters makes me uncomfortable, by way of fact it sounds like a bribe. thank you notes are fantastic. Getting a observe back that the guy have been given the interest or have been given the scholarship or desperate to bypass to a diverse college is amazingly welcome and does not ensue often adequate.
