Question: I was leaning towards finance because I find that I am strongest in math and I am financially savvy When most kids blew their money on music CDs I would invest in bank CDs But now I have taken 2 classes that I need to get into the business college and both were boring and sort of hard to grasp so I figured finance wasnt for me I did however take interest in my Philosphy class I'm really creative and analytical Also people say I should be a journalist since I ask a lot of questions and when I talk to them they feel like they're being interviewed I have a little interest in art I have been drawing fancy lettering since I was a child and every now and then I would try to draw a family member and it would come out ok But I just look at my peers artistic abilities and nevr thought I would have a chance with my skill level After seeing RENT I have interst in theater/movie but I want to start off behind the scenes Math ACT 23 English 28 Ironic? Take a career aptitude test. You answer questions and it tells you what field is probably right for you based on your answers. I thought it was crap when mine said I should be a speech pathologist or an audiologist. At the time I thought I wanted to be a microbiologist. I'm now an English as a second language teacher which incorporates a little bit of both jobs since I have to teach my students how to pronounce things correctly and make sure they are hearing what I say accurately. I love teaching ESL so I guess that career test was somewhat right. BTW, you sound like my sister. She went in for accounting and hated it, so she switched over to marketing. You might want to look into that. She works as a merchandiser which uses everything she was taught in her marketing classes. She uses her artistic ability and philsophical reasoning to create interesting displays which draw the eye and inspire customers to buy. That gets people to spend more money at her company which requires her to use math to keep up with the inventory. She uses her theatrical abilities to pretend to she likes her boss when she thinks he's a total idiot. So, really, marketing could be the field for you.

Good film schools in CA would be USC or UCLA. They are exceedingly difficult to get in. Unless you have a portfolio to show them, you cannot even apply. You actually have to be behind the camera, directing, writing, and coming up with a short film before you present yourself to them. I knew a student (she was one of the student workers/student employees) – and she said she had a suitcase full of stuff for her portfolio. I wish I had paid more attention about this. UCLA program is a transfer program.

There are no guarantees. Even for engineering grads. In your case your chance with film is like 1%. With marketing about 50%.

You must enjoy serving coffee a lot. lol. Concentrate more on whether or not the graduates got jobs in the industry instead of how they got into the college of their choice. College should train you for a marketable skill, not to further pursue your hobbies.

You sound a lot like me, I just graduated college and now I'm wondering if I should've majored in something different! Kinda late to be thinking that now huh?? Anyways, you want to think about how easy it is going to be to find a job in that particular field after college. Do you plan to go to grad school?? You can't do much anymore with just a bachelor's degree, which is what I have. A personal recommendation...If you want to find a job easily after college, have great benefits, and a lot of time off, I would recommend being a teacher. Being a teacher incorporates all of the subject matter you enjoy. I wish that's what I would have done.

With only a biology bachelor's degree, there's not much you can do. You can be a laboratory technician, and if you get your teacher's certificate you can be a high school science teacher. There are probably some other positions out there, but as a bio major myself those are the 2 I know. To do any sort of research professionally, you need to get your PhD (if you want to head your own research, that is) or MD/PhD. And then of course you can go other professional routes and become a Vet, a Dentist, a Doctor or even a lawyer. Really, what you go on to in professional school isn't much determined by what you study in college, however. As far as communications, I think you can work for newspapers or TV networks... I'm not sure about "mass communications" degrees; I know you can get specific degrees from communication schools for TV, Film, journalism, public relations, etc. And for those, obviously you do what the degree states. However, i think your job options from those are also helped by getting some form of further education (though it's not as necessary as far as I know). If you wanted to combine those two, you could shoot for some sort of medical journalist--cover medical problems for scientific articles, or write about science for the national geographic. You could also work for some kind of science/medical related TV show. Obviously, these are pretty specific and hard to get into, but if you are motivated enough, I'd say try for it. To do some sort of combination of your two interested fields, you should do a double major at a university that has a college of arts and sciences (for the bio) and a college of communications (for the com major). You should be able to complete these 2 degrees in 4 years (or maybe 4.5 depending on the schools requirements). Good luck choosing!
