Why not start off with one of the quotes from the story, like this one? "Do you know why books such as this are so important? Because they have quality. And what does the word quality mean? To me it means texture. This book has pores." The following was taken from the SparkNotes site: Faber speaks these words to Montag toward the beginning of “The Sieve and the Sand,” as he explains the importance of books. Faber tells Montag that it’s not the books themselves that Montag is looking for, but the meaning they contain. The same meaning could be included in existing media like television and radio, but people no longer demand it. According to Faber, Montag is really in search of “quality,” which the professor defines as “texture”—the details of life, that is, authentic experience. People need quality information, the leisure to digest it, and the freedom to act on what has been learned. Faber’s comment that a book has “pores” also evokes the sieve in the title “The Sieve and the Sand.” Trying to fill your mind by reading books is like trying to fill a leaking bucket, because the words slip from your memory before you can even finish reading anything.

451 degrees, this is the temperature at which paper will burst into flames, a temperture that Montag knew quite well. or Montag, a fireman, not your typical fireman though. He was a fireman who was sent to burn books.

maybe you could start with something about how it started as just a concept and ended up being one of the hottest books of its time.

Your question: " I need a clever, attention grabbing title for my essay? My essay is on the effects of sleep deprivation in college students. Normally I d just name my essay something boring like "Sleep Deprivation in College Students", but my professor insists that we think of an interesting title. I got nothing, I can t think of anything I could possibly use. Do you have any ideas?" Why? Can't you just present an essay that rests on its merits rather than some advertising gimmick? An essay on the topic you have cited would be judged based on its content, evidence, and reasoning. There is nothing clever or attention grabbing that can change that. Authors who believe that some title to which you allude will make their essay more interesting are usually authors who have no insight into the selected topic. You watch too much television, attend to too much advertising. Science does not require advertising nor is it made more accurate or relevant by advertising. Advertising only tends to decrease the credibility of the author. Interested readers will be searching according to content. Your proposed title seems to be suitable for the purpose of identifying the topic.

"I'll come up with a better title when I catch up on sleep this summer: an exploration of college sleep deprivation." I came up with some more: "I've slept six hours since Wednesday: How Sleep Deprivation Shapes the College Lifestyle." "The Fourteen Minute Nap: A Look at the Ineffective Sleep Habits of College Students."
