Have you ever faced Adversity? Have you lost someone you were close to (parent or grandparent) and had to cope with that while in high school or something. Have you had any surgeries while having school and trying to keep up on the homework? Was your family ever homeless while you were a child? Things like these would be considered an adversity Entering high school and getting out of your sister's shadow would not be considered an adversity, that's a weak adversity that nearly everyone faces and it's really not one.

A lot has to do with how you are are raised, and many are raised in an atmosphere of fault-finding criticism. It becomes the emotion of avoidance in adulthood, and behavior will reflect defending the ego from attack or guilt by staying inside the comfort zone rather than aggressively looking for workable solutions. It is much easier and less painful. To others who are not raised in that kind of atmosphere and then to have to work with people who are effected in that way is extremely frustrating. One person is trying to move forward while the other is still pointing fingers and playing the blame game.

I think that the business/legal world is partly to blame for that. (see, there I go blaming again...) Because when you are trying to get help or make something go your way, it seems that everyone wants a valid excuse for why they should help you. Usually an excuse turns into blaming another person. For instance, if you want your car door fixed by your insurance company, you have to say that someone hit your car while you were in the store. They won't fix it just to be nice.

A very broad topic that you can work with is improving the world. There's helping third world countries in a logical way, recycling, the disadvantages of war, ect... It's a very flexible topic.
