Do you think I have OCD or do I just tend to worry a lot?

Do you think I have OCD or do I just tend to worry a lot? Topic: Day in the life of a research psychologist
May 26, 2019 / By Gabriela
Question: I've had a very troublesome childhood. I've been abused physically, sexually and mentally by my father. My mother is diabetic and is losing her eyesight. My father just got married and that has added to my stress. He pays little money to my mother and she has to borrow money from relatives or her sisters to feed us and she just borrowed money for her operation. I feel sick and yesterday she took me to a doctor who told her that I need the help of a psychologist. i have weird habits that I developed from about when I was 10 that have been going on and off. I'm not a health freak, I don't wash my hands 24/7 or a lot of times. These 'habits' developed after a fight with my father. I didn't even notice them until a year ago. I didn't think it was strange. I have a habit of clicking my mouse several times, jumping and skipping houses in my head when I'm on the road and I cover my nose when there's a bad smell and I breathe in 4 times. I don't blink during this because I feel if I do, then I have to do it again. I think a lot and I end up crying without a reason. My father is a perfectionist and maybe that has something to do with it. The good news is that I've gotten rid of half of these habits but I have this other habit which is quite embarrassing, I have this habit of yawning and and then taking God's name and thinking that He is there to save me and help me. It eases my mind and if I don't, I go into panic mode. Maybe because when I was little (I'm 17 now), people used to tell me that when you don't cover your mouth while yawning, Satan enters your mouth. This is the habit that I cannot get rid of and I start panicking. I also start panicking because from what I've researched, I found 'OCD' and I don't want to find out that I have something like that. My brother is a psychology student and I discussed this with him and he said that I don't have OCD and that I just have developed strange habits to protect myself. My mother says the same thing. I'm really scared out of my mind because I've heard that this disorder is not curable. I don't have a lot of friends because I feel scared to approach people. I feel like I'm not worth anything and all the girls in my class hate me. I'm always quite and I don't know what to say. I don't feel like doing anythinga and I sleep a lot and sometimes eat a lot (or sometimes I don't) which annoys my father and he mocks me or yells at me. I have no one to talk to and it makes me want to cry. Whenever I talk to my mum, she tells me to shut up because her blood pressure rises. I can't blame her because she has her own problems. She's the only one I'm close to in my family and my brother doesn't talk to me. He ignores me a lot unless he needs something. I don't know what to do. Help please? PS: Panicking as in, i get scared, not hyperventilate. I only hyperventilate when my father yells at me. This gives me a headache and I feel as if I'll go into a coma. Is something wrong with me? Am I weird? WIll I be cured?

Well, there is Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, which is mostly genetic and more serious. Then, there is Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder, which is less severe. Both can be treated. Relax, go see someone (a doctor) about it. There are a lot of medications and therapies these days that can be very effective in treating these compulsions of yours. I'm really sorry for you that you've had to go through so much in your young life. It can really take a toll. I have hope for you that you can get past this and live the life of happiness that you deserve.

Likely that you have OCD like me. I don't know about the demon stuff but the saving useless items, yeah I do that. It's been a problem for me since I was 13. As for the taking pictures thing, I do that, but I never really thought about it as OCD. Maybe we are hoarding pictures too? Hope I helped

It seems like you have been through a lot of emotional trauma, which can definitely trigger anxiety. OCD is an anxiety disorder where the anxiety follows a specific pattern. Whether you have OCD or not, I could not tell you. If you think seeing a doctor would help, I recommend finding a psychologist in your area. Great luck to you and your future :)

It sounds like you've had a tough time. Try the best you can to deal with the problems you are having. Whatever you do, do not blame yourself. You have been pulled into a bad situation and you will have to find your way out. This might be a little too easy to say, but it would be good if you could be independant from your family. They don't sound like they are doing you any good.

Stop wasting our time. In your previous questions, you said you had a 15 year old daughter. I suppose you could have been 14 when she was conceived. But then in the question below, you identify yourself as a 7th grader who is 14. Here's your answer. Stop looking up and down, stop wasting our time on this forum, and then do your homework. Here's the question that says he's in the 7th grade. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...
