My friend's birthday is coming up and I really want to get her a new manga book.
She's read Mixed Vegetables, Mamoette Lollipop, & Kitchen Princess.
Any good suggestions for manga's similar to those?
(Food based, romance, ect.)

Sorry, your friend's choice in manga reminded me of my little sister.
Mixed vegetables O3O
I haven't read any of these, but I found some with pretty good reviews that seem interesting.
-Hatsukoi Lunch Box-
Despite the fact her mother's a model famous for being on the magazine Charisma Housewife, Sae's usually left home alone, and although she has what classmates call a 'sub-space stomach', Sae can't cook.
In an attempt to help a friend with her love, Sae becomes closer with a classmate named Yuuki, who works at a cafe.
Will Sae actually learn to cook? Will this closeness develop into a one or two-sided love?
Fujiwara Momoe, a girl who loves to eat, was raised by her rich parents eating only the best. When her father dies from heart disease and Momoe has to support her and her mother, she can't stand the food that she makes(she never cooked before). One day, she walks into a little French restaurant and recognizes the food from its taste. She had eaten it several years earlier when celebrating her birthday at a 5-star restaurant with her parents. She asks to work there as a cook under the head chef, Oda-san. She falls in love with Oda, but he doesn't notice her feelings and only considers her an annoying apprentice. This series goes through joy and heartbreak, as experienced by Momoe. How does the situation end?

The Giver actually is MY favorite book, also.
There are two books that go along with it.
They are Gathering Blue and The Messenger. Read them in that order. They are both VERY good. Jonas is not the main character so it's not like.. a forced attempt to add onto The Giver, but there are the same characters in each book and it all ties in together in the end. My boyfriend bought them for me for christmas (he did his research, I guess cause I had no idea)
Also, read The Alchemist. (It's about finding yourself and purpose in life through a story of a young shepherd)
And The Celestine Prophecy. (Which is about connecting with others around you through a story of a lost middle aged man)
Those books will really open your eyes and mind and if you really enjoy the Giver, I feel like those are good choices for you. =]
Full Moon Wo Sagashite:
Plot Summary: Twelve-year-old Kouyama Mitsuki was devastated when she was diagnosed with a malignant tumor of the throat. She had made a promise to the boy she loves that she would one day become a singer, but her illness made singing impossible. To make matters even worse, two angels of death, Takuto and Meroko, appeared to Mitsuki and informed her that she only had one year left to live. This news provides an even greater motivation for Mitsuki to fulfill her dreams, and with a little bit of divine intervention, she begins her quest to become a professional singer so she can be reunited with Eichi before time runs out.
Kamikaze Kaito Jeanne
The story is about the adventures of a high school girl, Maron Kusakabe, who is the reincarnation of Jeanne D'Arc and transforms into a magical girl kaito—phantom thief—to collect the scattered pieces of God's power which are also coveted by demons hiding in beautiful art works.
The series tells the story of Tohru Honda, an orphan girl who, after meeting Yuki, Kyo, and Shigure Sohma, learns that thirteen members of the Sohma family are possessed by the animals of the Chinese zodiac (十二支 Jūnishi) and are cursed to turn into their animal forms when they are weak or when they are embraced by anyone of the opposite sex that is not possessed by a zodiacal spirit.
Mikan Sakura is an orphan who lives in the country side of Japan. When her best friend, Hotaru, transfers away to a prestigious school in Tokyo, Mikan follows her. The school is actually an elite academy for the gifted people with “alices”. When Mikan arrives to the gates of the school, she encounters a teacher and gets enrolled due to a series of events. She is told that she has a unique, rare “alice”. There, she immediately meets Natsume, a moody boy who constantly gets abused by the school. They get along like fire and water, yet they are undeniably attracted to one another. She also gets the chance to meet other people; like Natsume’s caring best friend Ruka, or Iinchou, the class rep. Despite her initial view of the so-called greatness of the school, she slowly finds out that beneath the grand facade of the academy, there is a never-ending stream of lies and buried secrets. The school’s increasingly manipulative and sinister actions towards her make it a dangerous place to be. Little does she know, her enrollment in the school set the gears in motion to an even greater tragedy.
I know others but right now those are the only ones I can think about.

I've read Kitchen Princess, so I think I'll recommend Beauty Pop.
The main characters make people prettier and the art work is good too. Storyline is amusingly fun.

Happy Cafe / Shiawase Kissa Sanchoume
is about a girl who works part time in a cafe (it's a bakery). It's really cute, and has romance, though it's not super dramatic. http://www.amazon.com/Happy-Cafe-Vol-Kou...
(note: I've also read Oishii Kankei / Delicious Relationship, and it's good, but it's josei. Also, I don't think it's been published in English)
