Don't read the entire book-you'd be looking at information overload. Instead, go over your notes, homework, and old tests. This shows you what the teacher expects you to know. As far as testing yourself, some textbooks will have sample questions at the end of chapters, you could try those. You could also use the questions off of the old tests you took earlier in the year. Good luck and hope it helps!

It completely depends on your teacher, sad to say. Some like to surprise you on tests. Others like to pull their tests straight from their notes. Your best bet would be to ask students that have had your teacher before. If you don't know anyone that's had your teacher before, then study notes/homework and hope that you don't have one of those high expectation teachers.
