Acting/Theatre Arts: -NYU (Tisch) -Yale -DePaul -CMU -BU -NCSA -Purchase -USC -Emerson -Chapman -UCI -UCLA -CSUF Do you need a BFA/MFA degree to act? Nope. Will it help? maybe... I majored in both business and music in college. The business degree was my best decision for many reasons. Because of it I have been more successful than my colleagues who have either started the same time as I did or have been doing this much longer. Thanks to my business degree, I have been able to successfully market myself, network effectively, be more professional, avoid scams, know tax loopholes/write offs, etc. It has also helped me produce multiple streams of income so I can pursue acting because I enjoy it and NOT as a source of income. This is called show BUSINESS, not show-screwing around. Also, I believe college is about experiencing as much as you can. Audit as many classes outside of your major and get involved with campus activities. Part of acting is living the life. Get a rich college experience so you have a good story to tell through your experiences. My beef is with year+ institutions like AADA and BFA/MFA programs is this. I believe in being more diverse in my training. The year+ programs can sometimes be like factories where they churn out actors who are taught pretty much the same thing through a structured curriculum. What might work for one person, will NOT work for a different person. Also, a lot of the conservatories and BFA/MFA programs have strict policies such as NOT being able to audition outside of their school or study at other places simultaneously. I think this is limiting to the actor. The actor should have the freedom to audition for outside projects and add to the current curriculum. Non Collegiate Acting Classes: In LA: Cold Reading/Auditioning (Ranked from Top to Bottom) -Margie Haber -Brian Reise -Amy Lyndon Commercials -Hey, I Saw Your Commercial! -Chris Game -Stuart K. Robinson -Stuart Stone -Killian McHugh -Francine Selkirk-Akerman -Carolyne Barry Improv (All four are great) -Groundlings -Second City -Upright Citizens Brigade -Improv Olympic Scene Study/Acting (It varies. Some schools are not for everyone. Chubbuck, Eric Morris, and Howard Fine are not for people who aren't fans of Strasberg or Uta Hagen (ie. affective memory and substitution.) Playhouse West, Joanne Baron/DW Brown, and Acting Corps are more Meisner oriented. Try to audit these places and make sure if they're for you or not. -Doug Warhit -Kimberly Jentzen -Beverly Hills Playhouse -Howard Fine -Stella Adler -Ivanna Chubbuck -Joanne Baron/D.W. Brown -Tom Todoroff -Playhouse West -Aaron Speiser -Acting Corps -Eric Morris Comedy: -Scott Sedita -Lesly Kahn In NY: -William Esper Studios -Stella Aldler -T. Schreiber -HB Studios -Margie Haber -Redwall Productions (Rosalyn Coleman) -Upright Citizens Brigade -The Atlantic School

Cecily Originally Answered: What college/university degrees create the highest employment and unemployment.?
There isn't one definite answer, but the worst majors/degrees for employment are anything considered creative or liberal arts. Ex: Art history, Creative writing, Philosophy, etc.

I know that you asked about employment rates, specifically highest unemployment and highest employment. It is hard to provide a definitive answer because there are so many different studies that have been done that yield different statistics. One study suggests that Architecture produces an unemployment rate of 13% while the next one claims it's only 9.2%. One thing they do agree on, Architecture is #1 for unemployment. A study done in 2011 showed that Economics was the 10th best major for employment. Now a study I read just a few months ago, shows that in 2012 Economics is the #10 for unemployment. It's kind of crazy how quickly that changed! It could very well be due to the Methodology that was used in conducting the studies. One thing that remains true from year to year is that College Majors that lead to the best chance of employment right out college, with only a Bachelor's Degree, are in the Mathematics and Sciences- Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, Biochemistry and Statistics Majors (and other Science/Math areas) will find themselves very pleased. Those that majored in Child and Family Studies, Social Work/Psychology, Philosophy, Art History, Theater and/or Leisure Studies (as well as other Humanities and Fine Arts) may find themselves disappointed in the number and types of jobs that they qualify for, as well as the pay scale for these jobs.

I also learn that article; it used to be deceptive and uninformed. There are very few astrophysics packages in the united states, and practically all jobs in the area require a PhD. Nonetheless, majoring in astrophysics method you have got taken a lot of math, physics, and most of the time pc science, and learning those fields makes you very employable. Simply no longer in astrophysics. Despite that one guy they interviewed, who obtained a bachelors in astrophysics and used to be then employed via his tuition to run the planetarium, there are very few jobs within the discipline for a bachelors measure and it's no longer significantly better with a PhD. He had no idea what he was once talking about. Whilst those fields do have good employment, it can be now not zero% unemployment. They simply talked to a few humans and had very low-number information (if 5 individuals majored in that and all 5 bought a job doing something, associated or unrelated, that's 0% unemployment). Proper now, the very best employment rates are in schooling and well being care (around 5% unemployment). On the bachelors level, they do not pay very good, however they may be nonetheless famous, more than most different majors. The perfect unemployment premiums right now are in structure (greater than 13% are not able to discover a job).

Cecily Originally Answered: I want to attend law school but do they recognize online degrees through Kaplan University?
I teach undergraduate law courses for several schools online and I have taught for Kaplan (although I no longer teach for them). Many of my students ask me if their degree will be "accepted" by a law school. You know folks can talk about accreditation all day long ... but when the school officials are behind closed doors making admission decisions and see one person has graduated from a brick and mortar school (which law schools are) and another student did it all online, I can't help but think there is a little bias in that decision-making process. My students who are taking online courses from schools that have real campuses, like Davenport University or Ashford University, will not have this problem since it is impossible to tell from their degree whether they attended classes on campus or online. If law school is your absolute goal I would recommend you go to a non-online school ... or at the very least take online classes from a school that is a campus school with an online program (like Davenport, Ashford, Baker, Southern New Hampshire, Troy, Park ... etc.). I hope that helps! The Law Dog
Cecily Originally Answered: I want to attend law school but do they recognize online degrees through Kaplan University?
You can probably get into some law school if you get a degree from Kaplan, a high GPA and a high LSAT score. But the elite law schools will not take you seriously. You say you want to go to Stanford for law school. I amwilling to bet that they have never accepted anyone with a degree from Kaplan -- and I suspect that they never shall.

Dear, In response to your question, I want to attend law school but do they recognize online degrees through Kaplan University?, I can say you that take a look at this site http://onlinecollegesfaqs.net because may be it can help you As you asked; "So I spoke to a kapalan advisor and they stated that they have the highest accredidation possible and i am able to transfer to any U once i complete my BA program. The only problem is I don't know if a law school will accept a ba online degree. I recenetly completed my aa through one of kaplan's sister school called maric, but i don't know if their credits are transferable to my state U. I want to eventually go to law schoole but i want to know if i should take the kaplan route or just start all over again at JC. Kaplan said they have an advanced start program since i recieved my aa and i would only have to complete half the time and half the cost since they already give me 90 credits for starting with them and any prereqs i may have completed within my aa. The cost of any BA program through kapalan is 57,000 the advanced start BA program cost 28,000 with the exception you have an (aa,as, etc.). May someone please give me some positive feedback on how i can find me way to law school." it might help you. Best of Luck :)
