If I get the blue screen of death twice in one week (new laptop) should I be worried? Topic: Find case studies online

Question: I've had my laptop up and running for about a week now and this is the second time I've "recovered from a serious error." Should I be worried about this? Am I screwed? The last thing I want to is to be working on a term paper and have the thing crash on me. Is there a diagnostic program I can run or is there anything I should do? I've spent a SOLID 10 hours finding patches, updates, drivers and mods so the LAST thing I want to do is refomat and do EVERTHING all over again. Any thoughts guys?

You need to run a hard drive test. Some laptops have one located in the BIOS. If not, look online for some utilities you can download and try out. You should also carefully study the details of the error. Look for something beyond "recovered from a serious error". If you can find an actual error code, search on Yahoo/Google for the set of numbers. Maybe you'll find out what's causing it. But definitely go ahead and make backups of your important data now before it's too late (in case something is wrong with your drive).

Did you install visio 2003 service pack 2 from microsoft site after you reinstall visio 2003. It may solve this problem. Check for latest driver for printer at printer manfature website Check the page setting in visio program before printing. PS:- Some printer have problem or known issue with regards to printing from visio. Try to print to another printer (different model or manufacturer). But I think Microsoft may have resolved these problem with their service pack 2 for visio

Have you tried re-installing the program thats causing the BSOD? If that fails make sure theres no compatability issues, failing that and as a last resort re-installing windows fixesnearly ALL errors that are not hardware based Regards magic

Yes you should be worry. BSOD don't appear too often. It will happen if the hardware is defective or the software is corrupted. So your best bet would be call for tech support. and explain it to them what happen(even though i am 100% sure they will ask you to send the Laptop in, but what the heck, give it a try). Usually the problem came from the RAM, but could be the Motherboard or the hard drive. so tell the tech that you are calling when does it usually happen(Like does it happen when running Internet explorer or PhotoShop or other problems). Hope those suggestion helps.

Possibly a loose ram chip or even the CPU. When moved you're breaking a connection that needs to be there. That's the best case scenario. Worse Case, you have a cracked motherboard or daughter board (many laptops have a split MoBo) and the movement is separating the a connection or two and that's wreaking havoc in the system.
