My dog has heartworms and he stopped coughing?

My dog has heartworms and he stopped coughing? Topic: Case by case staging
July 16, 2019 / By Diane
Question: Does this mean it's progressing? Or... moving to the next stage? We have been giving him cough medicine. His appetite seems to come back too. As well as his enthusiasm. Few weeks ago, he couldn't bark or even make a sound anymore but now he can. So... What do you think guys? honestly, i won't be going back to the vet because they maltreated our dog. we've had enough confining him there the cough meds were suggested by the vet and no, he didn't get any treatments

First , how old is your dog. has he been tested for heartworms, the test can show if it is a heavy load or not, but it can't tell you how many heartworms your dog has . Cough medicine can be prescribed by your vet but it will not cure heartworn disease. The treatments for heartworm are costly , each vet may have their own way of explaining the stages for recovery and the series of shots needed . We have 2 different phases , fast phase and slow phase. It depends on your vet which one he thinks would be best . Heartworms are caused by mosquitoes, it only takes 1 mosquito to infect your dog. As the worms grow in the heart, they create problems with breathing because they grow in the heart . The heartworm treatment consists of needles in the back, the dog is kept at the clinic and watched over night and to make sure the dog is kept quiet. Once the dog has been cured , it is extremely important to keep your dog on HEARTGARD monthly. If you don't , your dog can get heartworms again from another infected mosquito. You need to talk to your vet. Just because your dog seems to be feeling better , doesn't mean he is. Without the proper treatments you dog will die. It's as simple as that ! And it isn't a peaceful death. You vet was confining your dog for your dogs best interest. What do you consider bad treatment from your vet regarding your dog. If you are that unhappy , go elsewhere, but don't let your dog suffer. Eventually your dog will go into congestive heart failure, won't be able to breathe properly, and the belly will swell with fluid. I once had a dog come in that was full of fluid, we drained the fluid from the belly, and when I weighed the dog again after hours of draining fluid, the dog was 18lbs lighter. But what was a shock to me, was when I removed the needle , a heartworm came out as well ! This dog was in terrible shape, it took months and heartworm treatments, but now this dog is healthy . There have been cases where I have heard that if you keep your dog on heartgard pills monthly without missing a month, after 3 years , your dog " could " be heartworm free. But if you can't be faithful to your dog and give him the heartworm pill once a month, then you put your animal at risk for heartworms again. I hope this helps you decide what's best to do. Good Luck

It might be a form of asthma. I have a form of asthma that is aggravated by perfumes/fragrances/scents/smoke and exercise. When I was finally diagnosed - my symptoms were coughing a dry wheezy cough at seemingly random times. I coughed almost every night - but was fine after I woke up. It turns out that I have a sensitivity to most perfumy or floral scents. When I got new pillows and started washing my hair with non-scented shampoo, using scent free soap, washing my sheets and pillow cases in scent-free detergent, and removed the air freshener from my car, I lost nearly all of my symptoms. I had a hart time believing that this was true - but when I started removing all of the scents from my life - I started feeling better. I was checked by an allergist for true allergies - and didn't have any. It turns out that I just have sensitive brachii or lungs. Exposure to these scents causes my brachii to inflame - and cause me to cough/wheeze. Now, whenever I am near someone who smokes, or who has strong perfume - I cough. Check it out. If cough a dry cough every night when you go to bed - this might be your problem. Going to bed is particularly bad - because you lie down next to a pillow that has picked up fragrances from your hair and skin for years, and because you are lying down in a pool of fragrance from the sheets and your hair and skin that are all washed in soaps, shampoos, detergents that include "perfume" or "fragrance" in their list of ingredients. If you find that putting your head at the edge of the bed - or elevating up away from the sheets helps - it might be an asthmatic reaction to those scents. It takes some time, diligence and discipline to identify and remove all of the scents from your life - but if that is the problem, you will be much better. Nearly everything has scents: soap, shampoo, laundry detergent, laundry softeners or drier sheets, chapstick/lip balms, skin creams, hand lotions, cream rinse and conditioners, candles - just about anything you can think of. Good luck.

Itj's probably just bronchitis and not pneumonia. You would have high fever if it was pneumonia. Just out of curiousity, are you up on your whooping cough vaccination? Maybe you should visit the doctor to see if an albuterol inhaler would help with those coughing fits.

The same thing happened to me and all you have to do is stop yourself from coughing whenever you start coughing or you have a lot of cough drops with you.

First of all, please tell me its some sort of cough meds that your vet prescribed and you not giving him people meds? because that would not be good at all. lol Second, has he had the heart worm treatment, because if so then he could just be slowly getting better. If he has not gotten any treatment then unfortunately heart worms do nothing but get worse Add-on: Well i hate to be so blunt, but if you dont get your pup treatment for something like this it will eventually kill him. Heartworms are no joke.

Here are tips that help me when I'm fighting a cold, respiratory infection, or flu..... take a sinus decongestant containing Phenylephrine 5mg. you don't necessarily need all the extras it's often mixed with. but if you want some extras, here you go: Guaifenisen (Mucinex is the brand name, but it's way cheaper at dollar stores. always read ingredients!!) liquefies your mucus so it's much easier to expel. But you have to drink TONS of water or it won't work, and you must be near a bathroom because it makes you pee a lot. Ibuprofen is an excellent anti-inflammatory, but it's strong, so alternate it with Acetaminophen as needed for pain, pressure, and headaches. ESSENTIALS: stay home. (even one day can make a difference. plus, you'll keep your germs to yourself.) sleep. (bolsters up your immune system) drink plenty of water. (8 8oz servings a day=bare minimum!!) (pee out those germs and flush 'em away!!) take vitamin C, zinc, and echinacea. (also strengthen the immune system) eat too much garlic. (sorry, but it really is great for your health! and it will give you a good reason to stay home. :) ) avoid milk and chocolate. dairy foods will thicken your mucus and make your fight that much harder. the meds and garlic are harsh, so don't take them on an empty stomach. i hope you allow yourself some time to feel better soon! take care. also i just learned a new tip from JOHN POPPER of BLUES TRAVELER: very hot water, cayenne pepper, white vinegar, and honey. GROSS!!! he gargles it and spits up all kinds of nasty crap. might be worth a shot, but don't hurt your vocals! to be safe maybe just do hot water with lemon and honey. that works too, and it's much more pleasant. Source(s): you will benefit most from the mucinex and water. (generic is fine... but don't take any DEXTROMETHORPHAN during the day. take it at night so you can stop coughing and get some rest. during the day, you need to drink a ton of water and break that crap up so it will leave you alone!)

Well, if the cough syrup is an expectorant, then the wetter/rattly cough is a good thing because it's breaking up the congestion. The pharmacy will fill the rest of the prescription - they have to. If you've just taken it, I'd just call the doctor and ask for 1 refill. Not sure if you are a smoker, but if you are and you had bronchitis, your cough can last for a long time because of the irritation.
