Question: So, I'm writing a song for somebody & i've never written a song before. So far I have a pretty decent chorus going, and another part that I'm gonna throw somewhere in there, dont know where yet though.. I have no idea how to start the song though? Any ideas? This is all I have so far.. I'll do whatever it takes to make this alright, Whatever it takes to turn this all around, I'll do whatever it takes just to hold you tight & I'll promise to never let you down. I may not be the girl I used to be But I'm still the girl, in love with the boy & Always will be. Yeah, I'm still the girl, in love with the boy Sweet Jimmy Lee.

Different people do it differently. Some of the greatest songs ever have been written with the music first and the words later. Of course, that's true of the inverse as well. Basically, it depends on if you feel more comfortable with lyrics or with music. From your description, I would guess that you're maybe most comfortable writing lyrics. The problem with this is that it's sometimes hard to figure out how to fit a melody to the words. Whoa, lots of questions. First of all, there is no single cookie-cutter way to write a song. Some people might have some little methods or techniques but from people I've talked to it doesn't happen in a forced situation, if you know what I mean. For me it just kind of happens when I mess around on the piano/guitar for a while or whatever. One good way to start of I think is to think of some different musical ideas (riffs, chord progressions, ect.) and then try piecing them together. For the harmonies, often singers can just naturally harmonize. I have no idea how they do it but some people are just really good at picking out a harmony and singing that...
