July 20, 2019 / By Yannick Question:
Putting the faith part aside, what actually makes you believe in the bible and the characters in it (God, Jesus, Moses, Mary ect...) What makes you believe its all true?
Ok first off you guys dont need to be rude. Im not bashing your beliefs by any means. You have the right to believe whatever you want to. And I used the names that came to my mind.. sorry it didnt incluse other characters from other "bibles" Its a genuine question. What made you come to believe. Miss catholic over here, you are a good reason why people dont like you.
@Lady Wildcat. BTW they all dont believe in YOUR blue eyed blond haired god, that might be news to you.
@lawrence; so then why even bother clicking on the question to put your irrelevant 2cents in. This is why I cant stand orthodox religious people. They are f*ing self rightous and a many other names Ill keep tomyself

Well, my story's a little interesting - and a little unusual.
I have a Bach Sci in Physics, and always considered myself a skeptical, "show me" sort of guy.
Then I read the bible. I quite literally could not believe all of the things that I read. Most importantly, it seemed to me as if many of the miracles found in the bible could have been easily faked.
Then I read the bible again. I applied more critical thinking (my science education helped tremendously). What evidence did I have that any miracle had been faked? Who was more likely to know what really happened - me, or an eye witness? Were any of the miracles recorded actually impossible? I was undecided.
Then I read the bible *again*. I considered the questions above far more carefully. I came to the conclusion that *all* of the evidence was in favor of the bible being accurate. Nothing in the bible contradicts scientific findings (though many things contradict particular scientific theories regarding past events). I read several editions of a magazine (highly-regarded by real, accredited archaeologists) called "Biblical Archaeology Review". This magazine is truly unbiased - yet, again and again discoveries were made supporting the historical accuracy of the biblical account.
The evidence is overwhelmingly *in favor* of the bible being accurate. It has been over 14 years since that 3rd reading and I find more and more to support the bible. I have examined dozens of claims of contradictions and errors and have found only these to be valid
and only two actual scientific errors which are incontestably due to translation issues (that is, the original text does not display scientific error, but translators refuse to use the technical jargon necessary to make the translation precise and error-free in English).
In a nutshell: it's possible, it's got gobs and gobs of real supporting evidence (with extremely little to the contrary), and it has fewer identifiable errors than the average science text book (certainly fewer than any text book of similar length). If "the bible is true" were a scientific theory, it would probably be the most well-supported and widely-accepted scientific theory in all of science.

Keep the Law under Grace.
The Moral Law(Ten Commandments) was given to Israel in trust for all mankind. It has never been abrogated but ia as unchangeable as its author, being based on our essential relationships to Him and our fellow men, and it is of perpetual and universal obligation(Matthew 5:17-20).
"REMEMBER THE SABBATH(Saturday) DAY, TO KEEP IT HOLY."
Jesus observed the Sabbath day of his own people. It was his custom yo keep the Sabbath day Holy(Luke 4:16).
The Great Teacher never intimated that the Sabbath was a ceremonial ordinance or exclusive to the Jewish people. The Sabbath was given to all mankind.
It is evident that Christ did not change the Sabbath in the New Testament. Nor did he set the seventh-day of the week aside. Nowhere in the Bible is it stated that worship should be changed from Saturday to Sunday. The Bible declares that we should keep Holy the Sabbath Day.
It's hard to talk about ancient texts, fulfilled prophecy, and other related subjects in one quick answer. The books below can get you started, if you really want to know why Christians believe what they believe. Briefly, I will say that one thing that distinguishes the Bible from pagan myths is that the Bible lists definite times, places, and historical events that the readers (especially in those days) could identify. For example, Jesus was born "during the first census (of Caesar Augustus), while Quirinius was governor of Syria," (Luke 2:2) a definite time that First Century readers would have recognized. Pagan myths are much more nebulous and non-historical. The books I recommend can explain it all much better. You may not end up agreeing with them, but you'll understand the Christian reasons for faith much better after you read them. (They're probably available from your local library.)

There are many reasons. There is the historical evidence. Most historians place Jesus on the same level as Julius Caesar as far as documentation. There are very few ancients with such a body / abundance of documentation. Over 17 ancient writers, some Roman, some Jewish, some anti-Christian, document His historicity.
There is the archaeological record. Biblical archeology found so many sites, peoples, artifacts, and other things that a magazine by that name was published.
Also, the Bible has survived numerous purges, threats, burnings, killings and martydom by hundreds if not thousands of believers. It is really a fascinating story. Even one part about the Waldensians going into hiding, being persecuted by the Catholic Church is an amazing story not many people are aware of. Look it up on wikipedia.
There is personal testimony. Many have been saved from depression, drugs, suicide, alcohol, murder and worse crimes by the impact and influence of the Bible.
The Bible is the basis for most country's laws. Churches established schools, hospitals, and mental institutions based on Bible principles.
I bleieve the Bible to be totally true. Science does not answer many questions, especially ,where we came from, what is our purpose, what is God like, etc. Science changes constantly a fact many do not understand. The Bible manuscripts have been virtually unchanged for 3500 years!

physical evidences of the induction variety.......
The Bible states that there was a world-wide flood, based upon this we would expect to find fossils of sea creatures even on highlands, and we do.
The Bible was written by over 40 authors who reaffirmed what the others had said on many occasions, especially the gospels.
If one reads the Bible without presupposition, it comes off as fact, (a historical book one may say) with that in mind let's look at The manuscrpite evidence, there are over 25,000 ancient manuscripts of the Bible with an approximate 99% accuracy between texts.
Look at these comparisons: Julius Caesar's The Gallic Wars (10 manuscripts remain, with the earliest one dating to 1,000 years after the original autograph); Pliny the Younger's Natural History (7 manuscripts; 750 years elapsed); Thucydides' History (8 manuscripts; 1,300 years elapsed); Herodotus' History (8 manuscripts; 1,350 years elapsed); Plato (7 manuscripts; 1,300 years); and Tacitus' Annals (20 manuscripts; 1,000 years).
Jesus is written about in other ancient Historical documents.
Tactitus was a Roman historian who wrote the following about Christians in 112 AD, regarding the fire in Rome during Nero’s reign. He lived from 55-120 AD and was known as the "greatest historian of ancient Rome."
"Hence to suppress the rumor, he falsely charged the guilt, and punished with the most exquisite tortures, the persons commonly called Christians, who were hated for their enormities. Christus, the founder of the name, was put to death by Pontius Pilate, procurator of Judea in the reign of Tiberius."
Two thousand years is a long time, but you don't doubt the existence of confuscious or cleopatra.
Now on proving God, there is no physical evidence that I can point to to prove His existence, I take that on faith. All I can say is that science has been proven wrong hundreds of times throughout history, so I don't think it's very trustworthy. And there isn't a single phrophecy in the Bible that has broken.

They have no evidence and make the fantasy claims to try and take attention away from the very real evidence of history against their claims!
Academia states that in the absence of any sort of evidence of the existence of something it must be deemed not to exist until verifiable evidence is found - thus god is held not to exist pending some sort of verifiable evidence.
The bible is what is called "Faction” A fictional story set in a factual time and place. Thus the time, place and real historical characters are all correct but the fictional characters and stories are not!
There is not one single mention of Jesus in the entire Roman record - that is right - not one! At the same time as he was supposed to have been around there were a number of Jews claiming to be the messiah - all of whom are well recorded!
There is not a single contemporary record from any source and even the bible mentions of him like all other references were not written until many years after his supposed death!
He was supposed to have been a huge problem to the Romans and produced wonderful miracles but still not one contemporary record?
Even the bible mentions of him like all other references were not written until many years after his supposed death!
Pilate is recorded in the Roman record as a somewhat lack luster man but no mention of a Jesus, a trial or crucifixion that would surely have been used to make him look brighter!
At best he was an amalgam of those others but almost certainly never existed!
Not one word of it is contemporary with the period and was not written until several hundred years after the period the story is set in!! How did the apostles write their books more than a hundred years after they would have been dead?
Please realize that those claims for the Old historians are worthless since they were not even born until long after everyone in the stories would have been so long dead!
Josephus AD 37 – AD 100
Tacitus AD 56 – AD 120
Suetonius - 69 – 130 AD
Pliny the Younger, 61 AD – 112 AD
Justin Martyr (Saint Justin) AD103–165 AD
Lucian - AD 120 -180 AD but he was hostile to Christianity and openly mocked it.
Pamphilius AD 240-309 AD
Eusebius AD 263 – 339 AD
Photius AD 877 – 886 AD
Thallus - But there are no actual record of him except a fragment of writing which mentions the sack of Troy [109 BC] Showing that he was clearly not alive in biblical times.
Some even try to use Seneca. 4 BCE – 65 CE but as a Stoic Philosopher he opposed religion yet made not a single mention of a Jesus or Christianity!
Even funnier is trying to claim Celsus AD ? – 177 AD Who said that Jesus was a Jew who’se mother was a poor Jewish girl whose husband, who was a carpenter, drove her away because of her adultery with a Roman soldier named Panthera. She gave birth to an illegitimate child named Jesus. In Egypt, Jesus became learned in sorcery and upon his return presented himself as a god.
