How safe is it to upgrade to Service Pack 3 (XP SP3)? Topic: Is my custom case safe
July 21, 2019 / By Katy
Question: I had my yellow shield with "!" active all day today and made my system totally useless until finally it told me that Windows XP SP3 is ready to install. However, I lost courage to install upgrades from the yellow shield since some Daylight Saving update failed to install (a long story).

Not totally clear on everything your saying but it's safe to install sp3; there are cases where it causes problems, if that happens you could always uninstall it in add/remove (make sure your "show updates" is checked). Another thing you could do if you don't want to install sp3 is do a custom windows update and instead of installing the sp3 option there will be a "view other updates" option. This way you could still stay up to date without installing sp3.

It is completely safe to upgrade to service pack 3, it installs all the updates that has been made by Microsoft. Plus the Daylight Saving Update is included. None of your personal files will be affected. so it is recommended to upgrade

It's a rough time to be upgrading right now since the industry is right in the middle of a lot of technology changes. With the change to i7 chips from Core 2 chips, you need to make the decision on whether you're going to bite and get a new motherboard to support a new processor, or not. If you do, that's a big chunk of change Video cards are even worse right now. With the upcoming release of nvidia's 300 series, we're about to see the next evolutionary step in graphics. This will also drive down the prices of current leading cards. If you're after a christmas gift...then I'd have to say get the best video card you can. It's about the only thing you can carry over to your next machine if and when you upgrade to core i7. Windows 7, while nice, isn't really an "upgrade" for a gamer. XP is more than fine for now. You're not going to find a lot of titles supporting DX11, so don't worry about it. The only other thin I might suggest is a Solid State Drive, although these too will see big price drops next year. However, they rock when it comes to speeding up load times. A 128GB SSD will run you around $350. I realize it's smaller than most hard drives people use today, but you only use it as the system drive and keep another mechanical HD in your computer for cheap storage of media files and such.

Well, both get an SSD as a process disk, or difference the motherboard as a way to improve the processor. I'm leaning in the direction of going for an SSD methods disk, so as to look forward to the LGA 2011 socket processors which are popping out on the finish of this yr (good, allegedly).
