The Sin of Angle A is Opposite Over Hypotenuse The Cos of Angle A is Adjacent Over Hypotenuse For any Acute Angle, in a Right Triangle, Opposite over Adjacent Gives the Tangent of Angle A Sin(72)= Opposite/Hypotenuse and Cos(72)= Adjacent/Hypotenuse so...... Sin(72) x Hypotenuse = Opposite Cos(72) x Hypotenuse = Adjacent

Geometry & trigonometry students in US high schools generally are quite familiar with the special right-angle triangles (RATs) of angles 30 – 60 – 90 & 45 – 45 – 90. (Very little is taught in US high school trig about other special RATs. So, I'm guessing you're either not in the US or you're in a US college or university.) But, 18 – 72 – 90 is a special RAT with (ugly) ratios: 1 – √(5+(2√5)) – (1 + √5) or rounded: 1 – 3.0777 – 3.2361. (Of interest to some mathematicians is the fact that the hypotenuse is twice the golden ratio.) A place to start for your homework might be http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exact_trigo... Searching the net using multiples of 18 may also help. Some links to get you started http://staff.jccc.net/swilson/trig/trig1... http://userpages.monmouth.com/~chenrich/... math.berkeley.edu/~theojf/08Fall32/Han... http://www.zaimoni.com/Trig.htm#Ref18deg36deg54deg72deg [incorrectly states that trig is math reduced to 'brute memorization'] [Historical note: In ancient math times (that is before computers & calculators were common), some trig tables were available in multiples of 3 (18 - 15 = 18 - (45 - 30)) because the exact values could be found using various formulas [Like, sin (α ± β) & cos (α ± β)]
